WOW!!! absolutely my favorite place to eat while I was in Hot Speings for a week. It's been there 13+ years. Great lunch spot. I had the Dos Equis Marinated Beef Fajita Salad with black beans, corn, jack cheese, tomatoes, peppers & onions, guac, crisp red tortilla strips over greens with yummy jalapeño ranch dressing. OMG! My daughter had the Chicken Caesar with tomato, red onion, smoked bacon, croutons, shaved Romano cheese. Wow! Ended with a chocolate covered Coconut Macaroon! This place runs like a top! Counter ordering and pickup. Fun atmosphere. I HIGHLY recommend! Don't miss this place. Soooo glad a local told us about it!

Amazing variety and fresh ingredients and menu. These people care about making delicious food. Fantastic! We ate veg goddess and Cuban sandwich.

Everything is delicious!! Stopped by here on the way to California and discovered this great gem. We bought their cook book. Hopefully we can recreate the food we had from this place.

We actually found this place using Yelp while driving into Hot Springs. What a terrific find!!!! Great food....my husband said they were the best chocolate chip cookies he has ever tasted. He had the KY Brown - which was turkey on a custard bread which was YUMMY. I had the Mexican tortilla wrap which was very nice. The green beans salad was top notch. We will be back!

Wonderful food. Stopped here on our way into Hot Springs from Memphis. I had the Salmon BLT Entree Salad, ohh it was so good. My husband had the Mexican Tortilla. No matter what you order, you can't go wrong.

I love this place! In a town where it can be a real challenge to find vegetables that aren't deep fried, 1217 offers really delicious healthy food at reasonable prices. I could eat there every day and never get tired of the menu. Everything is fresh and the portions are more than enough. I never saved room for their desserts, but they certainly are tempting....

It makes me sad when you see dreck like Olive Garden rated higher in a town with a place as good as 1217 Cafe. Their food is fresh and well-thought out. Soup is hearty, especially the tomato which might be my favorite anywhere. Salads and sandwiches are excellent and feature both seasonal and regional ingredients (e.g. on a recent visit, my beautiful, tasty salad had fresh creasy greens). Desserts are fresh-baked and awesome. My advice is to by-pass anything that is a chain (a general rule of thumb wherever, whenever) and anything that resembles something you could get at home for a real Hot Springs homegrown place, run by people who actually care if your food is good. My only complaint is that I think they close around 7 pm.

The food here is amazing! I have yet to try something that wasn't. I also love it because they have a number of healthier food options that you can often get when you go out to eat. They have great salads and a great salad case. They also have a number of vegetarian options which are much harder to find in Hot Springs. I gave it a 4 because the system they use to serve you this wonderful food is not very efficient. You order at the counter and then wait for you food to be called, but they often seem to be far understaffed for the amount of business they have, I have had to wait up to 15 minutes just to place my order. Then you pay at a cash register, and I have also had to wait 15 minutes to pay, in these instances I have often considered leaving without paying when I'm in a hurry. If they would hire some more help to come up with a more efficient system this place would be worth 5 stars.

WOW!!! First time at Cafe 1217 and it was wonderful . I had the half chicken salad sandwich, which was served on a small toasted croissant . Yummy! With a cup of tomato soup. Great taste, not super thick, which was refreshing on such a hot day . The atmosphere is nice . The employees were very helpful and friendly . Lots of choices of salads and sandwiches. Plus they have a huge assortment of salads and entrees to take home . Check out their menu, I wouldn't be able to do it justice in this review .

Good food. Nice restaurant. Workers seem quick and ready for you to hurry up. They could be a bit friendlier.

So surprisingly diverse and delicious. They have homemade lemonade and juice which is pretty decent too. The service was very friendly and welcoming. Be sure you read the board on how to order though or it can be confusing. The pasta salad is so good and the roast beef sandwich I had was masterfully done. I recommend it for sure.

Walking in, it's very confusing. There is a white board that seems to give you the menu; however, there is a paper menu on the tables with more options. We wish someone would have pointed that out. The servers behind the counter where just okay. They didn't explain anything and where not very helpful. The food was okay. Nothing we would come back to have again. It's certainly not coming out of your way for like we did

I admit, I had high hopes for Cafe 1217. First, the reviews on Yelp are (mostly) great. Also, the menu choices are very enticing (Tomato-Avocado & Roasted Corn Salad; Greek Burger; Sage Chicken Salad, Thai Beef Salad...the list goes on and on.) Lastly, they offer Gluten Free options that are clearly stated, which is now necessary for a few of my family members. As mentioned, I had high hopes...but Cafe 1217 didn't deliver in my opinion. My husband and I both ordered the same sandwiches (turkey, peppered bacon, herb mayo, avocado, plus a few traditional toppings) - his on gluten free bread from Dempsey Bakery, and mine on some kind of jalapeno bread. However, I guess they were out of the jalapeno bread, as I got basic wheat bread. I was already somewhat disappointed, but they also slathered it in butter and grilled it...which I personally HATE. I would prefer restaurants to make this known on the menu or during ordering, as we all don't need another pound of butter in our diet. The side of the day was good, which was a German potato salad. However, the side was very small...literally, 3-4 small potato slices. My husband ended up getting a side of fruit, as I suppose the potato salad was not gluten free? The fruit was fresh, but he ended up eating some of the potato salad (which didn't appear to have any wheat mixed in.) One of my main complaints is the pricing! $8.75 for our small meals, plus an additional $2 for his gluten free bread (which is always a smaller portion size than a normal sandwich.) I don't think we would go back again anytime soon, for all of these reasons.

What a gem! It's almost impossible to find "gourmet" food on the lighter side in a small tourist town in the south and 1217 Cafe fills the void. Fresh ingredients seasoned well with a chef's touch plus a menu updated monthly, what's not to love? The cafe is spacious with three cozy rooms but it fills up quickly during lunch time. Sure enough, if you build it, they will come.

I agree with the other reviews. Good food but poor customer service. Tells me someone is not paying attention to the latter. Owners should do better if they want to keep help and customers happy. Could be so much more enjoyable.:-(

Always enjoyable, clean, and wonderful customer service! Lunch time does get busy from time to time but it's is absolutely worth the wait!

This is the kind of place where you get great quality food but its self service, at the same time it cannot be classified as a hole in the wall since the place is well furnished decorated and the atmosphere more like a neighborhood favorite restaurant. We went to the Garvan woodlands garden and were ready for some yummy food after our hike. This place caught our eye for some good southern food ;) I was there with my parents, my wife and our 8 month old. The atmosphere is super friendly and the fresh house made desserts , lemonade and apple ginger juice caught our eye as soon as we walked in. My wife and I decided to split the Fish tacos sandwich and the chefs deviled egg chicken salad. It turned out to be a real treat. The herb marinated chicken in the salad was so juicy it had to be one of the best cold chicken I ever tasted. The fish tacos sandwich was actually a wrap with the fired fish inside with a spicy napa cabbage slaw inside. So delicious and filling. I also had a chance to taste the tomato soup and it was delicious, even our baby was loving it. Overall such a great place

If I were to just rate the food, I'd give 4 stars. The last few times I've been, every lunch as been delicious. I've gotten the pulled pork sandwich, the turkey club sandwich, a salad, chicken pot pie, and a slice of key lime pie -- all yummy. However, it's the lack of friendly customer service that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There was one lady in particular last weekend who was taking orders at the front, and she didn't smile the entire time or offer any insight on the menu options. If she did make eye contact with you, it was a look that said, "I'd rather be anywhere but here, looking at you." C'mon, Cafe 1217. I know you have heard about Southern Hospitality. If you want people coming back more often, choose friendlier employees; it's that simple.

From the outside you can't tell what culinary genius treats await inside. We walked in and there was a case of delicious gourmet- looking food. We ordered at the counter. He got the tuna melt that comes with an orzo salad, he said it was the best tuna sandwich he ever had. I got the tomato soup with wedge salad.... Best tomato soup I've ever had! We got the rum raisin pie for the road - perfect crust, oh it was just delish! If we are ever driving through hot springs again, we will stop in. Plenty of parking & seating. I wish we had a restaurant like this in Austin!

Really extensive and different menu options. Food was very fresh and flavorful. Enjoyed the homemade and out of the ordinary meals we had. The tomato soup is awesomeness! Highly recommend!

Went in, was asked to wait while the two people behind the counter continued their conversation about some guy the other night (that's all I caught). The menus were in between two display cases. I stumbled upon them. They ignored our discussion about if they had menus. The menus were difficult to understand and rather expensive. Side dishes were charged by weight so you don't know what the price will be until you pay. Plus it was $6 for a child's grilled cheese sandwich. The menu did not say a drink or chips came with it, just a sandwich. When we put the menus back and I told our daughter to take my hand so we could leave they turned to talk to us. We left.

Food was good and fresh, but the premium price and poor attitude by the people taking the order and taking the money was unacceptable. Doubt we would go back. Why would anyplace make you wait in line to place the order and then wait in line to pay. Our food sat out on the counter for almost five minutes before we went up to tell them it was ready for is. Can't expect premium price with mediocre service!

First time visit today. Girl taking our order was not friendly and when asked to explain what was in the portabello wellington she was indifferent. We ordered the portabella wellington and brisket quesadilla with tomato soup. It was good. I wish the service would have been nicer.

Lives up to the hype! Light-filled, "tea room" atmosphere, friendly and small-town service even though we walked in as they were closing. We had the Greek burger, tomato soup, salad, and chicken salad. Everything was really good - the soup and Greek burger were incredible! Also be sure to try to ginger lemon apple juice, it's very different tasting and delicious. This place deserved the 5-star rating.

This will be short and sweet, as I agree with most of the other reviews!! The menu is so diverse and creative, the bakery items are just fabulous, but the service is severely lacking. I had the butternut squash veggie burger with couscous salad.... HOLY DELICIOUSNESS!!! It was the best veggie burger I have ever had! For a drink I got the minted lemonade, it was really sweet and really awesome. My girlfriends and I shared dessert: a slice of apple cake and a slice of chocolate carmel pie. Wowza. Both were great, but the apple cake was OUTSTANDING! Minus one star for their service... she seemed irritated that people had walked through the door and she had to speak to us :-/ She also rang up my friend incorrectly, and did not want to fix it or admit she had made a mistake. The food is worth the bad service... believe me. I wish this place was closer to me!

My family and I went there for a lunch when we were visiting hot springs. I had a pork chop, green beans, and a mango salad. The pork chop was great, the side dishes were only ok. My brother had a fried catfish and it wasn't ideal, it was re-heated. My mom didn't like her dishes and commented that only their asparagus was good. My dad had a tamale and he said it was decent. Overall, I really liked the dining atmosphere, but didn't really like the food. I would give the decor a 4-star but the food a 2 or a 3.

This place was packed. Trolleys and vans were dropping off and picking up large groups of patrons. I really had no idea what I would get, so I tried the Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich. We had to wait, and when the food was ready it sat on the counter for a few minutes before my name was called. Even though it was lukewarm, the sandwich itselt was one of the best I've ever had. The sauce had hints of curry which made it different than other pulled pork sandwiches that I've had in the past. I noticed that a lot of the locals were having the minted lemonade. So why not try it, right? Very, very good. It took awhile to pay our check, as they were answering phones and taking orders at the same time. In all fairness, they were slammed so I look forward to coming back in the future.

Fantastic find! Ordering is interesting - there appears to be a different menu every month, so it must never be boring to eat here. The serving display reminds you of a French bistro/patisserie cafe. I ordered the shrimp and crawfish cake and mint lemonade. I'm vacationing here from Texas and was very surprised to find a familiar kick to the meal. It was delicious and exciting, and the feel to the cafe reminded me of downtown Austin - quaint, curious, and artistic.

Oh, this place is fun! An every changing menu full of things that I'm not totally sure what they are. The Cuban sandwich is really tasty. The salad with spinach, walnuts and strawberries is light and fresh. I love to get their flavored tea! It comes with a lemon wedge and a sprig of mint. Toss a little raw sugar in it and you're good to go! The have so many neat things in their glass case up front. I'd love to try a little of everything!

Neat little place, not so little inside, looks like they had 3 shops and connected them all together. You order up front at the counter, get your drink and wait for them to call you when your food is done, then you bring the check to the left side of the counter and pay after you eat. My chipotle corn chowder was great, just enough spice to give you that kick. However, the Mexican tortilla warp was disappointing, chicken was too dry, avocado went AWAL, pico de gallo was tasteless, and the piece of lettuce didn't help a bit, the side dish was some cold rice salad, no flavor there either. I do have to admit the mint lemonade was the star of the show, so refreshing, too bad they charge you extra for a refill.

Healthy food is hard to come by when traveling. This place was perfect! Fresh and full of variety, 1217 felt like being home after a day at the grocery store-creative cooking with health in mind.

Cafe 1217 has a different menu each month -- which I am usually excited to see. They have interesting and sandwiches and awesome desserts (cookies, pies, and cakes). You can eat in -- or order take out. If you get bored eating at a lot of restaurants -- this is the place to go for something different.

So the food is excellent, and you ought to go. Heed this advice, however. Go early, it's a popular lunchtime spot in Hot Springs and fills up quickly. I guess, due to their success (and the 500 awards on the wall) they've decided to have soup-nazi-like service. The decor is dated and atmosphere unimpressive, the staff looks like they're having a collective bad day. They just call your name when your order is up and you pay when you leave. It's also expensive - like $25 for my wife and I to eat lunch (soups & salads, I got water). No wifi, and the text-for-a-deal thing doesn't work. Again, good food and "almost" worth it.

This place is off the hook! I went with a large group of people (11 or 12), at the height of the lunch rush, and while we waited about 20 mins to order, our food was out quite promptly! I ordered the chili relleno sandwich half with half of the avocado-tomato-turkey entree salad. Both were excellent, mildly spicy, and very tasty. Everything was fresh. I didn't get a drink, but tasting my friends' I feel free to go ahead and recommend the apple-ginger juice as outstanding. An all-around eating pleasure!

Great food! There are many awards about this place hanging on the wall from Arkansas Times and other places. The menu changes monthly which says to me the chef is always trying out new things and new creations. I am going back again because I saw this wonderful looking asparagus and eggplant dish that I couldn't take my eyes off while eating my meal. On this trip I ordered a 1/2 sandwich and pasta salad. I had the Mexican Tortilla Wrap which was made with roasted chicken, avocado, and pico de gallo. Very good!!! They cater and do special orders (give a few days notice) and also do box lunches. This place is a must for any person who likes healthy, gourmet food with a touch of coziness. You can look at the current month's menu on their website: cafe1217.net

I am a HUGE fan of 1217 Cafe. My Grandparents live in Hot Springs and whenever I am visiting them you better believe I come her AT LEAST one time in the week that I am there. I always get a sandwich and soup. The Tomato Soup is my favorite its freakin' delicious, I have also tried a Chicken Tortilla Soup that was just as yummy. I have had a few types of sandwiches and all of them were phenomenal, I damn near licked my plate every time. Before leaving of course we have to get some sweets! I have had the majority of what is in the pastry case at one time or another and it was all VERY good. Everything they put out is extremely fresh, seasonal, and down right awesome. If I didn't live half way across the country I would be here for lunch everyday!

Every item we ordered was delicious! The salad medley bursted with flavor. I ordered the quiche and tomato soup- both delectable. My companions ordered the ahi tuna burger and buffalo chicken salad and both were extremely pleased with their choice. The pumpkin muffin was to die for. So pleased to find a cafe with such a great choice of delicious healthy fare.
